everybody has you're coming in just wanted to get this up and running make sure where we're all set restarting momentarily at 6 we got a couple of years signed on what's awesome be starting with our content right around 6 thanks for coming today Welcome to our viewers tuning in a couple sign in on thank you for coming today momentarily just making sure everything works welcome everybody has your tuning in we just want to get everything up and running and make sure that are all set and good to go will be starting momentarily with our content and thank you for just checking the audio real quick to if everybody can let me know that you can hear loud and clear that would be great all right if I can just have somebody to comment back if you can just let me know that you can see in cure everything okay that would be fantastic before we get started I'm looking over at my other screen right now as well just make sure we're all up and running right I have six so you'll go ahead and get started with everything on the neck Minotaur so here just give it a couple more people a chance to sign on and we will get going thank you so much for coming today we really appreciate it okay great we're going to go ahead and get started thank you for coming to our virtual project showcase today it's been an interesting into the school year to say the least but we wanted to figure out a way that we could still come didn't celebrate everything that has been accomplished this year and just share some of the excitement that we have for our program so they're all of our families and parents and students thank you for coming to check out and celebrate your school year that are new to us we appreciate you tuning in to see what our school is all about and have some of that story be told by our staff and students today so real fast here's a little bit of flex pack at a glance I think it's really need to be able to see some of the stuff and some of the experiences and everything that we've been able to do in the past so far and we'll see a lot of those today as we go through as we have our different video clips and everything with just examples of everything that we do everything that our program is so to get us started wanted to show a quick tour virtual tour for our school just to give you set the stage and we'll kind of go from there into individual experiences in projects hi my name is Phil Janice I'm the principal of flex Tech High School wanted to talk a little bit about we try to strive and focus on project-based learning project learning is all about creating experiences for students demonstrate their Mastery of content you can take a wide variety of shapes and forms such as everything from research papers and presentation speaking to the public and their classmates demonstrating what they've learned all the way to Hands-On experiences and building and making crafting different things we really tried to make sure that our students have voice and choice and what happens at ours very proud of our guys Remodel and the different connections and relationships that we are able to make for our staff and student we killed at these relationships really propeller students be able to drive after success and curler their own education and understanding and everything that they tried to accomplish that our school we encourage students come up with different proposals and ideas that they might have four things that can make the school better you could be things from events and activities happening at the school for different clubs in various dinner. Esports team we really try to make sure that we are able to be partners in this educational process with our students and families and relationships are what matter most to us c contact us about enrolling today you can email the school or call at 989-866-6739 thank you very much all right so little bit more about us and wanted to make sure to put this in there if there's anybody that's noon paying attention and and would like to learn more about us absolutely there is the email for myself and Miss Brown office manager we be more than happy to schedule a tour and get its to learn more about our school and our program and everything like that so throughout this see what you're interested in and get a hold of us right away and a little bit more about us just before we get into some examples and some other great stuff that's been done this year we have are project-based curriculum and a competency-based assessment with the technology-rich environment that sounds like a lot but basically what it boils down to is that we're looking to attack school a little bit different and see what do students really now how do we know that they know it and we really look at and try to see different ways that we can have students Express with that is I think we have done a great job with Scott and some great student volunteers and some great project ideas to give you a sense of what that we like our school so I know it's overwhelming to our term possibly but really it boils down to having that experience for our students you're going to be a lot of that today and then a couple of scheduling options just again before we get into this real quick and we got a highlight right after this for one of them specifically we do offer dual enrollment we offer online and we offer options for our students to go to the GI Tech Center and we'll talk more about what that actually looks like and we had one of our students actually receive this award that I'll share with you all right now regulations Jack another month at the GI tech center this is what your teacher mr. Tillotson had to say about you jack is a first-year student and the small engines program Jack's knowledge and experience and small engine shop is unmatched he comes in every day with a smile on his face when he's ready to work Jack doesn't excellent job repairing equipment is a small engine shop with extreme attention to detail Jack is always willing to lend a hand share his knowledge but is not working on his own projects you will find him helping other students troubleshoot and repair their equipment his abilities leadership and knowledge are beyond that of a first-year student I look forward to having Jack in my class next to see what he can accomplish congratulations. The way to go we found that really cool and a congratulations again to Jack our student of the month that's a Gratiot Isabella text on we're not only able to send our students are very students have really succeeded and what they've done and that's been need to see we have a couple other examples here that I wanted to show as well because part of our program is being well-rounded having different kinds of clubs or activities that connect back to our work couple examples hear from students and faculty member of ours K-LOVE The Gardener that were part of our gardening team and our gardening club and what's done in the meantime at home to kind of keep that just going and keep projects going on their own net apart I made this the garden out of a dog kennel a Base theater how old metal wagon tire and a plant pot what do I got going here is cucumbers radishes and carrots I got red flowers and white flowers and I got tomatoes in the tire pretty soon I'm going to be transferring tomatoes and exist this is my summer project and it looks like it's coming out around pretty good and I'm pretty proud of it thank you for watching stay safe everyone so just a fantastic example there and how one of her students is kept that process going I actually have chromosomes I made this Garden out of a project that goes along with the gardens projects as well how do you guys just mrs. Gardiner I wanted to share with you some I've been working on a laugh a lot for the past couple months it's a raised garden bed and I'm used to have a big garden and my backyard back there but the deer and the bunnies kept eating stuff but they eat everything and it's too far away from my house I wanted to make something that was closer to my house and it's right here in my backyard and so like I'm standing on the end of my driveway and here's what I made it's a raised garden bed and then there are some bins in front of it that I kind of buried into the ground they were old kind of torn up bins and in my backyard they had a lot of scraps and neighbors had some pallets and I had like chicken wire and then old Bunny Run that we were easy anymore so I kind of ripped it apart the Bunny Run and use the pallets and built it all together then I filled it with dirt and I'm getting ready to put some plants in it now cat licked her most of the plants down here kale veggies and I'm pretty and then in the end here in the bins are they going to put some tomatoes and eggplant and mr. Gowan has some of those is going to give it to me and so yeah I did the whole thing and didn't spend any money except for a couple seed packets that's it and then my husband went and got some dirt because it was taking forever to fill that up with dirt so that's it okay I love you visiting miss you and will see you hopefully this summer or if not then that in the fall so just another example they are how we're able to keep some things going as be great to see we're excited to back in Star grounds in the building and hopefully get our school garden going against strong and cool to see how that process has continued in a different way but been very productive students and faculty numbers so just wanted to highlight some of the other things that you'll see at our school this was a really neat project that had to do with jewelry and rock type related to an art one of our eighth grade of courses and it's just neat to see how we have been able to fuse different things you know allow people artistic expression in subjects like science and many of are there Texas well so that's been really need to see and I think it really provide some cool things to look at in reflection different ways to learn here's another example that we have students at that I had made a atmosphere project so again it's cool because they're not just learning the terms they're not just going through and and doing the memorization of the stratosphere and various other things braxley mapping it out and visualizing what does that actually mean what does that actually look like in and come up with it any different wife got another video here from Miss Frank for a crochet project okay everybody so this is my project that I have been working on for project okay since we've been off for the covid-19 so I'm going to share with you on my corner of the living room. is overflowing with projects in yarn and I'm going to assume that I'm going to switch my camera around and show you what I have been working on since we've been off of school here is my corner of my living room and all that fun stuff Karen so I kind of started is the back part of the card again but from there I made a pair of slippers that are about eight sizes too big for my husband so I did a good job there on this is my cat I need this blanket with all these different stitches which was super fun and then I kind of started with a bunch of random stuff and I'm trying to make a thing to hold my needle or my I made the song for my friend she wanted something to hold onions and so he's going to hang underneath this is a play I think of a place that I need for my parent in laws so that they could play at informate little nephew makes me want to throw it out the window. this is my project that I have it's been a long journey not easy to learn something new every time I learn to use Stitch it is a new user registration and try something new and I hope you and The Walker on my corner of crochet world some really neat stuff there and just to jump back in So now we saw Miss pranks and we saw a little bit more of what she's been working on in the meantime as well it's awesome to see what I thought was cool was we'll see some versions of stuff that specifically connected to school and then some stuff that's just learning and growing in general that's been awesome to see you got a couple examples Kira up some projects that her students were able to make as book trailers and I think there's just some fantastic work done here by our students and wanted to highlight some of these as we move forward through our virtual project showcase if you familiar with the book it does a good job with this trailer there and I really just a shaded the creativity I appreciated where students were able to do with we video and just mastering some of this stuff this year and it's been need to see who wanted to make sure to highlight some of that stuff is well and here actually you can see not only some students in our garden again these would be most very crazy students here growing and then using these items that they grew in there I believe the science course again I'm so learning different app facts of things that are going on and not only parts of the process but how those parts can combine together and learning a little bit about how the land Works how things grow and at what we then in turn the things that we grow this is a very fun projects as well your feet over here so this was the combination of physics and art where students we're figuring out the force and centrifugal force leads in specific to make different patterns using bike tire spinning different things see a couple of different projects with this I believe as we go through along with that we're in our trailer I'm just figuring out different aspects of force and combining with art and then actually making beautiful pieces of art out of it as well so Arts and Science together and you'll see some of these examples here of our students with when they were in economics figuring out what Adam and was so they you actually went through pulled our students and kind of figured out what what people would be interested in possibly purchasing if they set up a shop and then they ran their shops and actually did it and figure it out what supply and demand was all about they did a fantastic job with it was cool to see the variety of stuff that was done knows to choose her project where the same and that was really need to see if they're able to figure out some unique demands that existed and here you'll see this was actually a math project incorporating baking so they're cool thing about this was if you think about baking you think about fractions and different units of measurement that you need then you have to be precise you have to be exact or it's not going to turn out the right way it's not necessarily that you can freelance baking so you have to be able to know the math behind it you have to understand if you have to add directions and all that kind of stuff how it all works out and and it's got to work so what they had did to actually test it out and make sure that they mastered what that was all about is they they put it into practice and all of these cookies were fantastic I actually got to be a part of the tape test after when everybody was done more than happy to do that job and I hope that project continues next year we got a couple more examples of some student projects here so I'll let this just kind of lead into itself and believe that they were talking about another English project here I stopped there was just trying to get the sound to work correctly I started doing it in middle school if I started painting and doing it like I don't know it was just kind of always like a thing you know so like when I was little I used to like try to borrow my mom's makeup and he's kind of like braid peoples hair even though it was like rapid breathing like I just bought myself a great I don't even know how like and I did it I started singing when I was in physically when I was born because my family has been in the music for a long time my dad's dad I actually is the one who learn the guitar and I wanted to pick it back up and see if my. If I didn't like my dad happy again play Stronger had an interesting thought of my grandma and then I wanted to do what they did so then I started doodling and I got more into it a couple. I just wanted to make people feel beautiful you know I want to go my cosmetology and it has a lot to do with to be honest I didn't know I would think myself and I was little everything if only there was a career for this LG Stylo doubt and then once I found out like this was actually and people did this I was like no way this is not real late this is what music would probably be like a good hobby something to do in my own personal time probably has a how to make stress myself in some ways or it's a good stress reliever for something like that having tea and having no music in my life would probably be I don't think it's something I would like to have it moved because it's something that I think it's like a part of me and how I act when I do people's makeup and makes me feel really good because they really loved it and it like oh my God this way before you feel a whole different like other experience it's late you feel more confident and bold so just make people feel happy it's really my number one thing so that's a great example again of just the creativity or students are able to have I appreciated just the work that went into that and the passion see that was behind it that student pics I really enjoy art and just knowing that and knowing you know how we could connect it to that documentary project and style that fast was the the project warm itself was really need to see how that all came together and do something that she she really enjoyed so here's another example of a project crossing over into real life you'll see our geometry group dad actually got to learn trick shots for pool and learn how to incorporate angles and force into what they were doing to try and create makes cool trick shots and then actually try it out in practice so they actually went down to the VFW Hall and I got to hang out with some veterans and have a community of packed there as well get out of the school have an experience and really need to see then I just wanted to highlight this again this was really need to just show just more of the background to this was a project that we continue to be so proud of and want to die as we have one of our older students a part of that process and just be unpacked at that will have on our building the mural if anybody seen it is a beautiful space and we're excited to continue figure out how we can continue to Transformers face like that has done and I think it's going to be an inspiration for a lot of projects to come you'll see some different aspects of that going on right now and how it literally just started out as a plain boring blank wall and everybody of course that's been our building knows what that looks like now just such an important part of our space you can see some more of the product and the process to happen and again one of the I like this this wasn't from this year this was from last year but we really liked going back and as we're looking at pictures and seeing how this is kind of helped us slowly transform the rest of our space and make sure that we're continue things to grow in this way we wanted to be cool we wanted to be creative we wanted to bring that out in our students in ourselves and I think this is a fantastic inspiration to do so obviously what it looks like now so just wanted to highlight of that again cuz we're still extremely proud of it and that's always one of the eye-catchers even if we were doing a project pillowcase in person right now people always stop in that area and see it so we wanted it still have that experience part of this as well and we got another series of videos here projects of Anna I'd myself again and Let It Go full-screen and this has been really cool to see the different product products and projects that are come out of our German language stuff as well come and see me Asian bun figure out this is my horoscope today I want the Moon it's happening gif rocks radio Oregon music just a really cool example I like to just go and we're happy to be able to share it the impact that that whole aspect in subject areas had on her school this year it's cool to see the kids be able to actually learn this language learn the culture and keep that going we have another sample of that as well High School synthetic diamonds throughout look like biryani Slyman's bears and sole legal custody so now they really for example that was a project where they're going through introducing the school and just going through using the language to describe different aspects of the school and it's it's really cool to see so it's kind of but going through and being able to do that a totally different language was neat and here's some more examples of some of the Fantastic work that was done for our various quilting projects this year another very cool math project being able to use angles patterns rotations and actually putting that into practice doing something that you can physically see a result of that learning and students actually this year took it a step further and actually not only did the series of different clothes based on interests one of them was named after Minecraft Sao Paulo billboard that was need to see the other thing that was really cool was that they thought of another step of how could be incorporated and actually size it two different windows in the classroom so it could be used for times where it just needs to be darker to look at movies or just me reality of what we live in just a lockdown drill or something like that but they thought about how to connect it to so many different things and connected to the real world it was really neat to see if the level of thought that was put into another example again of one of our students and the aspects of 3D printing and everything that have happened so I believe this was actually won from the your prior we've had some other examples as well but we didn't want to highlight this work again and just kind of show how it connects to not only going through and learning the information but physically being able to produce that product as well sited to just be able to get back into the building in some way shape or form and hopefully have more of those experiences to come I think you got staff students and everybody is just ready three other various examples of things as well that we're proud of and can range from anything from going through and looking at how to physically make use of space for math cycle of how things go from a supply chain was done in one of our history courses and you'll see some of these other examples from showcases pass I wanted to just kind of give the flavor of you know what this is usually like I such a neat experience for our students and our staff and families and members of the community it is so great to be able to have our stew it's just not only learned the material but be able to explain it to other people be able to be talking about their work and be proud of what they do has been just a fantastic experience for all of us and something that we really cherish and I can't wait to get back and do more of so with that we really appreciate you guys TuneIn I just wanted to throw this out there if anybody joined late and I was wanting to more about a programmer watching this recording after it's it's been fantastic had to go through and just see some of the stuff really been proud of this year I'm just so proud of our staff so proud of her students are Community our parents former being able to figure this all out this last couple of months and what this all looks like and work at it together and be so encouraging together and be creative and just hang in there and that that's been fantastic and wanted to make sure to celebrate that so thank you all again for tuning in are we
